The Family

The Rawson Property Group, affectionately known as ‘The Rawson Family’, was founded in 1982 by William “Bill” Rawson.

We’ve always thought of our business as a family of property professionals who share and are connected by the same values and culture. We’re driven by the goal of helping people along their journey of owning and enjoying the property that’s right for them.

That vision has been at the centre of our evolution into a full-service estate agency group with close on 200 franchises across South Africa. As we’ve grown, so too has our brand. It now includes:

Properties: Selling and letting residential property
Rentals: Rentals and administration
Auctions: Auctions and immovable property
Commercial: Commercial and industrial sales and letting
Agriculture: Selling farms and smallholdings
Developers/Homebuilders: Building & selling residential developments

We may be bigger than ever, but the Rawson family still prides itself on its openness and inclusivity. It’s a family you’ll feel part of whenever you deal with us, over a cup of tea, over the phone or online. With us, you’re family.

What We Believe In

Our business is to help people own and enjoy the property that’s right for them - whether as a buyer, a tenant, a seller or a landlord.

This is a people-oriented business and we appreciate that as our client, you’re dealing in dreams. You may be looking for a new beginning, a lifestyle or a safe space. It’s the most important transaction in your life. The stakes couldn’t be higher and so there’s little room for error.

We strive to provide a professional and friendly service to all our clients, marked by honesty and integrity in all our negotiations. Because as a seller, you deserve a fair price and as a buyer you deserve a wise investment. Our goal is to ensure steady growth, based on dynamic and progressive management and an exuberant team who are excited and enthusiastic about property and people.

We feel a deep personal responsibility to our staff. We seek to create and maintain an environment where everyone is given the opportunity to develop to his or her maximum potential. We aim to reward them commensurately with their contribution to the success of the company.

The Rawson Story

Our family history may be very much like your own - alive with change and transformation, but consistently resonating the values and culture which give us our identity.

1971
Our Chairman, Bill Rawson, entered the property industry in 1971 at the age of 21. After three years he became a partner in the business that employed him. In 1978, at the age of 29, he established his own agency and four years later he began to challenge other players in the marketplace, operating from a modest 40m2 office in Claremont, Cape Town.
1978
This was the beginning of "Bill Rawson Estates". From this modest office, Bill Rawson employed and managed a team of 25 estate agents and insisted on their continuous training through courses that he designed and conducted personally.
1998
With a commitment to service excellence through training and an emphasis on business ethics, Bill Rawson went about building his agency into a multi-franchise organisation. In 1998, after sixteen years of solid growth, he launched the franchise group under the "Rawson Properties" brand.
2004
In 2004, Rawson Properties was nominated as a Superbrand by the Independent Superbrand Council of South Africa. What followed was a carefully planned national expansion campaign, with Rawson increasing its visibility in all the major provinces of South Africa.
2013
Today the Rawson brand is a forerunner in the South African property industry and comprises some 200 franchises and over 1000 Sales Partners nationwide. According to Finweek (May 2011), Rawson is the ‘4th largest real estate group in South Africa’.

Rawson Cares

As you may have gathered, the Rawson Family is extremely big - but you may not be aware of our extended family.

The Woodside Special Care Centre provides quality, integrated and comprehensive 24-hour care for profoundly intellectually disabled children and adults by educating and training them to their maximum potential.

Our chairman and founder, Bill Rawson, has served as a trustee on the Board of the Woodside Special Care Centre since 1995. The Rawson Property Group corporately – and Bill Rawson personally - continues to embrace and support this special Centre both financially and through practical personal involvement.

Woodside has in its care more than 90 intellectually disabled children and adults. These special individuals are dependent on the intensive personal care of around 60 nursing staff 24 hours a day. Several million Rands in funding are needed each year to ensure that these children are guaranteed the best care, support and love. Amongst other initiatives in support of the Centre, the Rawson Property Group runs an on-going campaign wherein agents and franchises alike are afforded the opportunity of raising funds for Woodside on a monthly basis.
