Originally named Twisfontein as a result of two farmers and owners of Vredenburg property who quarreled over the only available freshwater fountain, it was renamed in 1875 and became home to the Dutch Reformed church. Vredenburg is one of many towns situated in the West Coast region of the Western Cape. Vredenburg's coastal neighbours, Saldanha Bay, Paternoster, Jacosbaai and St Helena Bay, all have strong historical relevance. Saldanha Bay for instance, is named after Antonio de Saldanha, a Portuguese naval captain who visited the area in 1503. The bay became an important aspect of many military operations because of its strategic position, namely in the 18th century and later WWII.
Vredenburg is the unofficial financial hub of the West Coast and essentially where everybody shops, entertains, banks, and utilises the excellent medical facilities. It is also home to the West Coast mall, a multimillion Rand venture, whose presence is expected to bring even more opportunities into the region. All the neighbouring coastal towns can entertain many forms of water sports, fishing, holiday accommodation and the like, whilst Saldanha has the honour of being the largest natural bay in South Africa and home to the South African Military Academy, the SAS Saldanha (a naval training unit), as well as various iron ore and other highly lucrative industrial and commercial ventures.
The Rawson Vredenburg property territory, which can geographically be aligned to the zoning areas of the Saldanha Bay Municipality, is home to a diverse range of real estate in South Africa. Each area is synonymous with its own style, richness and qualities. Apart from Saldanha and Vredenburg where properties are more suburban in nature, the coastal areas offer many developments, complexes and villas in a 'fisherman-cottage' type of building style. For the most part, building guidelines are strictly adhered to and a strong sense of architectural elegance is displayed.
Overall, not only can the area provide an excellent investment in ones real estate portfolio, it also allows you to obtain the lifestyle and experience which encapsulates, amongst other things; long coastal walks, hiking trails in the local nature reserves, fishing, weather-permitting boat trips, visits to the museum, quad-biking, etc. WhilstVredenburg property may or may not be your first choice, there's bound to be something for you on the picturesque West Coast.
